I’m Zac Erickson, a Registered Psychologist in Edmonton.
My style as a therapist is collaborative, curious, practical, and fairly conversational. I want to understand why something keeps happening, but I’m also interested in what might actually help.
I have an MEd in Counselling Psychology and an MSc in Neuroscience. My main clinical interests include ADHD and executive functioning, anxiety, burnout, mindfulness and acceptance-based therapy, relationships, identity, and faith transitions.
I also have personal experience with ADHD and with a significant faith transition. Those experiences give me useful context, but they do not tell me what someone else’s experience means.
I take therapy seriously without assuming every session needs to feel solemn.
How I work
I usually begin by trying to understand the pattern clearly.
What tends to trigger it? What reinforces it or makes it useful in the short term? What makes it worse? What has helped?
Sometimes understanding where a problem came from is important. Sometimes the most useful question is what is maintaining it now. Usually both matter.
My work draws from cognitive behavioural therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, mindfulness, behavioural and executive-function interventions, existential therapy, and trauma-informed approaches.
I use models as tools. I do not assume one approach explains every person or every problem.

What sessions are like
Therapy with me tends to be active and collaborative.
I ask questions, offer ideas, and sometimes challenge an assumption or point out a pattern I think deserves more attention.
Some sessions are reflective. Others are very practical. We might be talking about identity, grief, relationships, or childhood experiences in one session and figuring out why you have avoided an important task for three weeks in another.
Both can be useful.
You know your life better than I do. I bring psychological knowledge, careful questions, and another perspective.
